“Pausing Your Rushing Around & Slowing Down Your Life.”

by | Jul 3, 2025 | Personal Insights

You have tried everything else why not try something different… “We need to make a vow to not try to change ourselves. To stop attempting to add something to ourselves.” -Vernon Howard. To society, this seems like madness, for it teaches to get more, and more, and get even more to reach happiness. Vernon Howard teaches that you need to lose things, not add more. He says this “more” is like trying to fill a bottomless basket. This is a profound truth that has been around for ages.

Every truth is a banquet, a beautiful spread laid out before you. So instead of having another truth to be spread out in front of you, why not pause and explore that first truth and slow down and enjoy its delights. You can go and enjoy that second truth later. Seeing and realizing that your rushing around is a mechanical bad habit is great.

“Slow Down Your Life.” “Slow down. Relax. Dare to deliberately disobey those inner screams that demand that you rush nervously around. You need not obey them. Instead, obey another quiet voice that assures you that the casual life is the truly powerful and efficient life. -Vernon Howard

He continues with: “You see, we never notice the familiar, we become conscious only of the unfamiliar.” By slowing down, you create an unfamiliar condition which calls attention to itself.

Vernon Howard said this in a recent talk: “Go deeper into your sins, if you want to make it, to wake up!”

“Since Truth is always relaxed, just join yourself to Truth and you will be part of that relaxation.”
You can truly help yourself by slowing your life down.

  1. Yes! Since discovering these teachings, there has been a realisation that happiness is never in some future that doesn’t exist – it’s now or never. If we slow down, we get to see the delights of the world and enjoy them.
After all, what’s the rush? No sense in rushing to the grave. If we don’t wake up to reality now, we’ll get to the grave having missed it all!
I am focusing on slowing down my life and my actions which in turn helps to slow down my mind so I can see the thoughts. If I see the thoughts I know what to reject as useless junk and not to accept the pain they are trying to inflict.
These teachings are a miraculous blessing to all who follow them.
