AROUSE YOURSELF TO LOSE.
REJOICE every time someone passes you, gets the advancement, the romance. REJOICE every time they pass you up, until you are in last place. And stay there until you see you should have done it years ago.
NO MORE WINNING, only
conscious losing… of all your false values.
DON”T BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. Allow yourself to lose! Never mind the resistance (such as, “Where is the next race/” There is none! That is Heaven!)
BE PASSIVE. No ego victories. No wanting attention. No aggressive putting forth of YOUR ideas, views, opinions.
LET THE DEFEAT BE COMPLETE. Defeated!… Humiliated!…Broken-spirited!… Sick!… Crushed!…
That is the Grand Experience!–Exhilarating!–Don’t goof it!
-Vernon Howard

P.S. I would love to hear your comments, ideas, and thoughts on this!
Magnificent! I have practiced these things for many years and the rewards are beyond description. No more chasing, no more yearning, no more fear, no more anxiety & worry, no more need to impress or be noticed. Oh my God, peace at last! Nothing can compare to the beauty of the Truth that sets us free! Our deepest thanks to our beloved teacher, Vernon Howard.
I remember being the last to be picked for a sports team in school; no one wanted me. The pain was immense. That was one of countless similar experiences over the years.
Now, I welcome any pain in feeling rejected and left out because I know it is only the imposter inside that feels pain, the thing that wants me to occupy hell on earth.
The seeing is the doing.
Yes, when I can see clearly my inner mistakes, I can then correct those mistakes. Everything must be looked at with a higher part of ourselves if we wish to be really free of our nonsense.
These high high instructions shows us we have alternative choices. Instead of getting angry, I can watch my reaction arise and watch that energy fade out. Instead of getting upset because things turned out differently than I expected, I can backtrack, and see what thoughts led up to this upset reaction and let it go.
I have often wondered when hearing of a suicide of someone famous, and pondered that they believed there was no other course to take when there are thousands of other choices. These instructions keep you safe and sane as John’s post points out. Everything can be different in my personal life…talk about Good News. Even if you understand only some of what Vernon is saying (writing), what keeps you from going deeper and understand more? Nothing.
