I just spent a month in Sicily, and here are a few things that I observed.
The food was next-level delicious, the sights, the old buildings were mind-jarring, for it exposed a new meaning and feeling about time. So many civilizations that had risen and fallen and were now gone, leaving only ruins to tell their stories. The earth just got older in my eyes as I viewed in awe the sights. The people, like any other place, were both very friendly until they were not. Human nature is human nature. The contradictions glared to my eyes, and it was apparent they (Sicilians) lived them every day and were not seen anymore.
This exposed that we humans can live in, but not see any more that which we don’t want to see. We look, but do not see. The elephant in the room is no more. This truth was so evident to my eyes, which were seeing all this for the first time. I was baffled at this trait until I wasn’t. I also noticed over time (days), I felt more and more comfortable to what I was seeing. In short, I fell asleep to my clear observations. I found that interesting. Mankind lives in a strange sort of sleep.
All the observations, which were overwhelming at times, needed to be processed, and every day I was adding more observations. All this made me look deeper at my own life and ponder our present-day society. So many angles to ponder and wonder about. I only have so much time on this planet (physically), so I’d best use my time wisely. Life is not just a new party to go to, but is very serious. My life is serious.
Since I don’t know the Italian language (words), my attention was on actions only. Words are a smoke screen for what is. Someone can say, I’m happy, but their face may tell a whole different story. Staying alert and aware keeps the true adventure alive and well.
Thank You Vernon Howard, your teaching has given me new eyes to see what I could not see before.
Comment *The inner life is what is truly important, for time defeats all other ambitions! This business of life, was seen with a new clarity. Developing your soul is a must.
“Everywhere you go, there YOU are.”
Yeah. I get the same experience everywhere I go around the world.
I’ll be in Mexico for business later this upcoming Summer, and I know that I will have to watch without ceasing, lest “I” corrupt and ruin the truth of the experience.
As long as Truth is with me, the experience will be a goodly, instructive, and genuinely profitable one.
Yes, the 1st thing to pack on any adventure/trip is your Vernon Howard books, etc., or your higher aim to stay present (this aim keeps you sane). There are no pots of gold at the end of any rainbows, the real gold is inner.
