“In Life, You Always Meet Yourself.”
Pondering and grasping this beautiful truth can change everything. Have you ever noticed that wherever you take your physical body, you always meet the same old you. There might be a temporary sensation of newness, but it quickly wears off. And so, you must find another situation to keep this new feeling alive. Vernon Howard’s marvelous quote says so much: “There is too much of you in your life.”
Believing your own propaganda that real contentment is just around the next corner can easily become a way of life. You never arrive.
Recently, I was out in my garden when it came to me that I was not enjoying the flowers and the birds. Strange, but true. I asked myself, Why is this? What is wrong here? Without listening to my silly mind’s answers, a beautiful revelation came to me, I was experiencing myself. I was meeting myself. A self that is not and cannot ever be satisfied, an endless chain of what’s next to fulfill this incomplete enity. Answers that are no real solutions. The revelation was that I could simply drop my present state of mind. So I did. Everything changed, I started to enjoy the garden. The flowers had changed. The birds had changed. Why? because I had changed.
In conclusion, you and I are always the problem with our wrong thinking, desires, and empty goals. It may presently be hard to see this because there is too much of you in your life, but all can change for any sincere student of the higher life. Make this your experience!
Thanks. I enjoyed your explanation of meeting oneself in all situations. It makes perfect sense. For years I went from job to job, country to country, car to car – always looking for the next thing that was going to change me for the better. I just took the same old me everywhere I went.
Your explanation is great. If I remember correctly, one of Vernon’s quotes that relates to this experience is, “You cannot be aware and think at the same time.”
How can I enjoy my life if all I do is think and interpret it based on my conditioning? How can I see Reality?
Thank you for reminding me to be aware in each moment and to see.
Yes Nadine, Just think…or should I say, just don’t think, we can step into a nicer world at anytime by dropping our present world (Inner state). This is very nice.
Thank Heavens Steve!
The perfect blog for me to read today, Thanks Steve. You put words to exactly what I was experiencing as I was out walking this morning. The mind was chattering away, I was missing the beauty of nature and the moment, when suddenly I saw that no matter how old I have been or where I lived it was the same old chatter, nothing had changed, only the topic shifts. I shifted my thoughts and the world changed, I noticed the sun was shinning, the tall grass was being blown by the wind, life was singing around me . I can’t notice the beauty of life when I am caught in my negative, self pity thoughts.
I liked Nadine’s quote from Vernon “you cannot be aware and think at the same time”, my experience shows me that this is true.
Yes. We all must earn our own gold by pondering these truths often and going into action. Seeing that we did not go into action is a great thing. Why? Because it is the first step in remembering. As we continue to dive into these sacred ideas we see amazing sights about human nature. Some we can not even share with others, they are so unbelievable, and yet true. We begin to meet this something else that Vernon speaks of so often..
