Concern Over Results in Life is Driving You to the Nuthouse!

Vernon gave a talk about giving up all concern for results. I decided to work with this miracle exercise. Vernon said, whatever the task before you, do your best to do it correctly, and give up your wish for the outcome to be this or that. He said, if you do this, the results will always come out just fine. I was going to experiment and see if it was so.

My first task was to repair someone’s sprinkler system, which was leaking in the valve box. As I turned off the water and began to take the parts apart, I began to notice thoughts about how long this was going to take, and thoughts of concern because the old parts were not available anymore. Suddenly, I remembered the exercise and noticed I was thinking about results. I went to work on the repair being as efficient as I could and not cutting any corners. The anxiety over the final outcome vanished. The thoughts about how much time it was taking and what would the customer think entered into my mind. Once again, giving up my concerns kept me level-headed and my concerns vanished.

I continued to do this all day long, and to my delight, my day got pleasanter and nicer. This was a goldmine! I invite anyone, everyone, to do this with their day to prove to themselves it is they that are sabotaging their life. You will see that you are driving yourself mad. Your day will take on a new kind of fun.

  1. Whenever troubled about anything, remember what Vernon said, “There is too much of you in your life.” Most people will go through their whole lives and never realize that unconsciously they were doing things to keep themselves unhappy and miserable. Exposing these thieves in the night, answers all questions about why ‘everything’ is the way it is. Vernon says, “you can’t make sense out of non-sense.”

    • Yes, It is a great day when you realize that the problem is you, and the mechanical way you think and act and react.

  3. Turning your attention inwardly, this is where the gold is. Work with this, for it exposes self-deceptions.

  4. My family recently moved into a condominium building with so many rules and fines, especially about moving, that it seemed like Fort Knox. After checking into everything and doing all that I could to make the move possible, including hiring a moving company, the day came. Because of certain rules that limited access to the building and elevator, I did not see how the movers would be able to get our stuff inside our unit. At the last minute as the movers started to unload, the maintenance man, who I could not communicate with in words, stepped in and allowed the movers to “break the rules” that we had been warned about, including using the elevator, which made all the difference.
Everything went smoothly. After the move I could see that this experience had nothing to do with me.
