Even if you don’t comprehend something this moment, pondering and having a true interest reveals you can understand something new.
“True courage consists in a persistent perception of our actual state, and not living in a dreamland about ourselves. At all costs, we must tell the truth to ourselves, but, surprisingly, after we have done so, we discover that the only thing it cost us was our concealed unhappiness.” -Vernon Howard.
“There is no curing a sick man who believes himself in health.” – Henri Frederic Amiel
What a true and healing message this is. We must be honest about our actual state. This is hard when we’ve spent our entire lives trying to appear happy, knowing and content. That’s called being a hypocrite, but we call it dealing with life, when in fact it is causing all our problems. Self-honesty on the other hand, while seemingly hard and painful leads to opposite results. I can begin to see that what I call myself has caused all the unnecessary problems in my life. Once the honest turn is made, our problem filled life can change to a life of decreasing problems and true contentment.
